Judge Frank Caprio was not only a jurist, but a symbol of good-hearted law. He had humble origins and spent his life serving other people with a sense of justice, compassion, and humour. * Childhood and QB & Background :
Frank Caprio was born on the 24th of November, 1936, in
Providence, Rhode Island to a middle-class Italian-American family living on
the Federal Hill. Antonio (father) worked as a fruit peddler and milkman and
Filomena (mother) was a homemaker. Growing up, Frank had all sorts of odd jobs
that he did to supplement his family with food and clothes.
A graduate of Providence College (1958), he worked as a
teacher in high school, studying at the Suffolk University School of Law at
night, and earned his law degree in 1970. He was also a member of Rhode Island
Army National Guard in the years 1954 to 1962.
* Political origins & Law of the land :
Caprio started his service to the people in the election to
the Providence city council in 1962-1968. He was also involved in significant
state-based efforts like the Rhode Island Constitutional Convention in 1975,
was a member of the Rhode Island Board of Governors on Higher Education and
served as its chairman.
In 1985 he joined the Providence Municipal Court as a judge and served as Chief Judge until he retired in 2023--almost four decades.

Judge Caprio is known as a world-famous internet-based TV
sensation with the television series Caught in Providence, which originally
aired locally before being taken national where it received Daytime Emmy
nominations (20182020).
His courtroom had a reputation of compassion, empathy and
humor in even the smallest traffic and parking cases. He would go out of his
way to assist people as opposed to charging them and going rough on them.
Cappy Caprio videos became viral with more than a billion views online. He even incorporated the children in making decisions, such as asking them to fix fines on their parents. His style resonated with the audience worldwide

College and Central High School, named after his father.
He was awarded several honorary degrees, and numerous awards
including being inducted into the Rhode Island Heritage Hall of Fame and having
his courtroom renamed after him upon his retirement.
Last Years and Overwhelming History :
Caprio announced in December 2023 that he has pancreatic
cancer and started treatment. He died on August 20, 2025, at the age of 88 in a
peaceful state.
His death occasioned appreciations the world over. Flags
were flown at half-staff in Rhode Island by decree of the state governor who
eloquently called up that he was a real Rhode Island treasure who embodied
justice with empathy"
