TikTok, a massively popular Reel-video platform owned by China-based firm ByteDance, and officially has not been Unbanned in India But still…
TikTok Can Be Accessed ?
In case you are wondering, when I search official Tik tok website, it was accessible via mobile device as well as on Computer. Some people on X (Twitter) said that the site remains inaccessible to them, so at least, this move to availability may not be as complete as it is meant to be. This development notwithstanding, the app can neither be found in the Google Play Store nor on the Apple App Store in India. As such though the fact that the website is up is intriguing the fact that the app is not there fully yet.
Possible Implications :
* Technical anomaly or soft rollback ?
The fact that the site immediately became open could be
evidence to a configuration error rather than a policy relax.
* No effect at the moment -
The site can be accessed by the users through browsers or
VPNs, but not all of the functions are available, given that the app is not yet
functional.
* Potential sign to policy change -
This is, admittedly, speculation but may indicate an initial
move toward a phased unblocking, initially of web access before any app
unblocking takes place
Verdict :
To date, TikTok is still banned in India, with only its website (perhaps because of a technical change) is reachable at times. The mobile application eludes. Whether this calls to similar changes in policy or this is but an oversight will be interesting to watch.
